CultOrale SCaRL Consortium
The Consortium, established in 2005, is a “Body for Research”, as defined in the Community guidelines n. 2006/C 323/01, letter d) of Section 2.2. It is an organization not-for-profit whose main purpose is to conduct fundamental research, industrial research or experimental development and to disseminate their results by way of the teaching, publication or technology transfer.
In the context of the Research activities the Consortium conducts studies, prototypical applications and pilot projects related to the elimination of barriers for disadvantaged citizens in order to better the use of computer systems.
More generally, the objective is to increase, through the specific use of technology, the inclusion in computerized society of disadvantaged groups, in particular in favor of blind and visually impaired. In the context of training activities the company goes beyond the dissemination of the results of their researches and designs and realizes transfer activity of knowledge and skills.
Especially thanks to the contribution and to the innovative design skills of Eng. Vitucci Franco, one of the founders of the company, who died suddenly in February 2013 and we all remember with great esteem and affection, CultOrale has contributed to the launch of several research projects, among which are under construction, both funded by the Ministry Productive Activities, "Speaky Acutattile" (Intelligent Voice Assistant Multichannel) and DOC (Device Orientation Blind), the latter with an international partnership (France England and Spain).
Among the international activities, Cultorale participates in the ISCA (International Speech Communication Association) and AAATE (Association for the Advancement of Assistive Techonology) activities and in the ForumTAL of the Ugo Bordoni Foundation.
In the context of educational activities, the company goes beyond the dissemination of the results of their research and also designs and builds knowledge transfer activities. Particularly relevant is the pilot project for the training of visually impaired and blind switchboard operators.
CultOrale’s Mission is based on the principles of Universal Design and the belief that, by the activities designed for the disabled people (of vision or other functions) may derive significant contributions to improve the access and processing of information and knowledge and culture also for the wider world of able-bodied people.
On the basis of this vision Cultorale is particularly interesting in "reading disabled" for blindness or dyslexia disabilities or for other physical or cultural disability, that are very numerous also hose parts of the World that are basically literate.
The technological challenge and the social objective of Cultorale is the development of new methodologies and tools to spread a "Oral Culture."
